Virat Kohli Poised To Lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru In IPL 2025 With Revamped Squad
Virat Kohli's return to the Chinnaswamy Stadium for IPL 2025 is confirmed, and he is likely to lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) once more. The recent IPL 2025 auction has concluded, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead. RCB, known for its star-studded lineup, has assembled a promising squad for the upcoming cycle.
After retaining key players like Virat Kohli, Yash Dayal, and Rajat Patidar, RCB acquired 19 new players in the auction. Josh Hazlewood emerged as their most expensive buy at Rs 12.50 crore. Other notable additions include Rasikh Dar from Jammu and Kashmir and the return of Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Krunal Pandya, Liam Livingstone, and Phil Salt are among their significant acquisitions.

The revamped RCB squad includes Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Yash Dayal, Liam Livingstone, Phil Salt, Jitesh Sharma, Josh Hazlewood, Rasikh Dar, Suyash Sharma, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Swapnil Singh, Tim David, Romario Shepherd, Nuwan Thushara, Manoj Bhandage, Jacob Bethell, Devdutt Padikkal, Swastik Chikara, Lungi Ngidi, Abhinandan Singh and Mohit Rathee.
With Faf du Plessis no longer part of the team, speculation about RCB's captaincy has intensified. Virat Kohli appears to be the frontrunner to reclaim his role as captain. His association with RCB spans over a decade where he led them from 2013 to 2021. Under his leadership they reached playoffs multiple times including a runner-up finish in 2016.
Kohli's tenure as captain saw him leading in 143 matches with 66 wins and a win percentage of 48.56. Despite not securing a trophy his leadership was marked by passion and inspiring performances. Since stepping down from captaincy in 2021 he has excelled as a batter but returning as captain could reignite RCB's quest for their first title especially with a refreshed squad.
The current squad composition suggests Kohli's return as skipper is likely. While Bhuvneshwar Kumar is another potential candidate his calm demeanor may not align with RCB's dynamic style. Krunal Pandya also seems an unlikely choice while Phil Salt or Liam Livingstone might be too risky for their debut season at RCB.
Why Kohli Seems Set to Lead Again
Kohli has expressed interest in leading RCB again despite past ups and downs with the franchise. Although there's no official confirmation yet indications point towards his reappointment as captain for at least this cycle. His leadership could be pivotal in guiding the team towards achieving their elusive maiden IPL title.
The franchise will now focus on preparing this new-look team for the next three seasons aiming to secure their first championship win after seventeen attempts without success.
