Venkatesh Iyer Celebrates His Joyful Return To Kolkata Knight Riders After IPL Auction

The IPL 2025 Mega Auction was filled with notable events, but Venkatesh Iyer's return to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) stood out. This all-rounder's homecoming was a significant moment for both him and the franchise.

Venkatesh Iyer, who played a crucial role in KKR's past successes, expressed his joy and appreciation after being re-signed for an impressive ₹23.75 crore. His return wasn't just about financial gain; it highlighted loyalty and the franchise's dedication to its players.

Venkatesh Iyer Returns to KKR with Joy

Iyer was visibly thrilled to be back with the Knight Riders. "Yeah, that's the important part," he mentioned during an interview on JioCinema after the auction. "I've gone back to KKR-the management that I've known, the ground where I've played so many games. That's the most important thing. The money part? Let's not talk about it."

The Knight Riders' decision to bring back Iyer reflects their strong commitment to their players. Known for supporting their core team members, KKR showed immense trust in Iyer, who was key in their journey as IPL runners-up in 2021 and champions in 2022.

"As Robby bhai (Robin Uthappa) said, this is a message. Winning championships is extremely important for us, but so is player development and backing the players. When a management does that, it shows how much it values its players," Iyer added.

Iyer's move back to KKR wasn't unexpected. With Chandrakant Pandit serving as both KKR's coach and Madhya Pradesh coach, talks of his return had been ongoing for some time.

"I was kind of on his nerve to take me back to KKR," Iyer said with a laugh. "But again, this move shows the confidence and trust KKR has in me as a player. It's a pleasure to be playing for them once again."

Leadership Prospects at KKR

While KKR's leadership plans for IPL 2025 remain unclear, Iyer is open to taking on more responsibility if needed. Having previously captained KKR when Nitish Rana was unavailable, he understands what leading a team entails.

"I always believe captaincy is just a tag, but you can always be a leader in the group. It's about creating an environment where everyone feels they can play for this team. If given the responsibility, I'd be more than happy to do it," concluded Iyer.
