Urvil Patel Scores Two Rapid Centuries In Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy After IPL Auction Snub
Gujarat's Urvil Patel, who went unsold in the IPL Mega Auction 2025, has made a strong statement with his performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25. He has scored two impressive centuries, showcasing his talent to the franchises that overlooked him.
On December 3, Urvil Patel hit another quick century at the Emerald High School Ground in Indore. He reached 100 runs in just 36 balls during a match against Uttarakhand. This performance followed his earlier achievement of scoring a century in only 28 balls at the same venue.

Opening the innings for Gujarat, Urvil scored an unbeaten 115 from just 41 deliveries. His innings included 11 sixes and eight fours, leading Gujarat to a convincing win over Uttarakhand. They chased down the target of 183 runs in only 13.1 overs.
In that match, Gujarat had opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Uttarakhand managed to post a competitive total of 182/7 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to half-centuries from Ravikumar Samarth and Aditya Tare.
Despite his current form, Urvil remained unsold in the recent IPL auction. In contrast, he was picked by Gujarat Titans for Rs 20 Lakh during the 2023 auction but was released before the next season without playing any matches.
The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy started just a day before the IPL auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This timing may have affected Urvil and other domestic players' chances of being noticed by IPL teams needing wicketkeeper-batters.
Earlier on November 27, Urvil had smashed an unbeaten 113 off just 35 balls against Tripura. His innings included an astonishing tally of 12 sixes and seven fours, marking one of the fastest centuries across T20 tournaments.
The local talent's exclusion from IPL teams is surprising given his explosive batting skills demonstrated in domestic cricket. Many franchises could have benefited from his abilities as a wicketkeeper-batter.
Urvil Patel's performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy highlight his potential and determination to prove himself on bigger platforms like the IPL. His achievements send a clear message about what he can offer to any team willing to give him a chance.
