Travis Head's Third Century In Pink Ball Tests Fuels Australia's Lead Against India
Travis Head was once again a formidable opponent for India, achieving his third century in pink ball Tests on the second day of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy's second Test. This milestone was reached on Saturday, December 7.
Head displayed an aggressive approach, hitting three sixes and 14 fours. He came to bat after two wickets fell in the morning session. Partnering with Marnus Labuschagne, who scored 64, Head steadied the innings and reached his century in 111 balls.

This century placed Head just behind Labuschagne for most centuries in pink ball Tests. It also marked his eighth overall Test hundred, including two against India. He had previously scored 163 in the World Test Championship final in 2023.
- Marnus Labuschagne (Australia) - 4 centuries
- Travis Head (Australia) - 3 centuries
- Dimuth Karunaratne (Sri Lanka) - 2 centuries
Head celebrated his century with a gesture reminiscent of Chris Gayle, which he had mimicked during IPL 2024. He dedicated this achievement to his newborn son after reaching triple figures at the Adelaide Test.
The 30-year-old cradled his bat and gestured towards his wife and newborn son, Harrison George Head, who were present at the Adelaide Oval. He then placed his helmet over the bat handle as part of his celebration.
In terms of match progress, Head's century helped Australia extend their lead beyond 100 runs. The hosts approached a total of 300 in response to India's first innings score of 180 all out during the Adelaide day-night Test.
Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets to add to his tally from day one as Australia lost Nathan McSweeney and Steve Smith early. However, Head and Labuschagne's partnership of 65 runs helped Australia recover before tea on day two.
After the break, India managed to dismiss Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey through Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Siraj. Despite these setbacks, Head continued batting alongside captain Pat Cummins as Australia aimed to increase their lead further.
