Harbhajan Singh Asserts Tournaments Will Proceed Without Pakistan Amid PCB's Champions Trophy Threat

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has responded to the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) threats of boycotting future ICC events in India. He stated that tournaments would continue even if Pakistan chooses not to participate. His remarks come amid tensions over the proposed hybrid model for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

"If Pakistan does not want to travel to India in the future, it is their call," Harbhajan said. "Tournaments will happen without their participation as well."

Harbhajan Singh on PCB's Champions Trophy Threat

The Champions Trophy 2025 has been a hot topic, with Pakistan initially set as hosts. However, due to India's security concerns, a hybrid model emerged as a potential solution. This model involves splitting matches between neutral venues and Pakistan.

Initially, the PCB rejected this idea but has since reconsidered due to diplomatic and logistical challenges. The hybrid model was previously used in the 2023 Asia Cup, allowing India and Pakistan to compete without either team visiting the other's country.

The final decision on this arrangement awaits approval from the ICC Board. Both countries are maintaining their diplomatic positions while awaiting this decision.

Harbhajan also commented on Jay Shah's new role as ICC Chair, expressing confidence in his leadership abilities. "Jay Shah will take cricket to a higher level globally," he said, praising Shah's work with the BCCI and his potential to involve smaller nations more actively.

As the youngest ICC Chair ever, Shah's successful track record with the BCCI includes hosting major tournaments and implementing a hybrid model for the Asia Cup 2023. These achievements position him well for his new role.

In cricketing news, Harbhajan praised India's performance in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He commended stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah for leading India to a decisive victory, highlighting India's strength even without Rohit Sharma.

Rohit Sharma is expected to return for the second Test, though there are concerns about his batting form. Harbhajan suggested that young Dhruv Jurel could be included over Shubman Gill as a strategic choice for the pink-ball Test in Adelaide.

The ongoing discussions around hosting arrangements and leadership changes reflect broader dynamics within international cricket. As these developments unfold, they continue to shape the landscape of upcoming tournaments and competitions.
