Tim Southee To Retire From Test Cricket Following Home Series Against England
Tim Southee, New Zealand's former captain and renowned fast bowler, is preparing to retire from Test cricket. His final appearance will be during the three-match home series against England, starting on November 28.
The 35-year-old pacer has announced that the third Test in Hamilton will mark his last game in this format for New Zealand. However, he remains open to selection if New Zealand reaches the World Test Championship (WTC) final next year.

Southee is considering a possible farewell in white-ball cricket against Sri Lanka after Christmas. This decision could lead to his retirement from all international formats before the Champions Trophy, as stated by New Zealand Cricket on November 15.
Currently, New Zealand ranks fourth in the WTC standings. Their position could improve to the top two based on upcoming results over the next two months.
Throughout his career, Southee has taken 770 wickets across all formats. As he approaches 36 years old, he will conclude his Test career at Seddon Park in Hamilton, his home ground.
"Representing New Zealand was all I ever dreamed of growing up," Southee expressed in a release by Black Caps. "To play for the BLACKCAPS for 18 years has been the greatest honour and privilege, but the time feels right to now step away from the game that has given so much to me."
A Memorable Journey
Southee debuted in Test cricket on March 22, 2008, against England in Napier. He took five wickets in his first innings and now plans to end his Test journey against the same team.
"Test cricket holds a special place in my heart," Southee said. "To play such a big series against the same opponent my Test career began against all those years ago, and on three grounds that are incredibly special to me, seems the perfect way to end my time in the black cap."
Gratitude and Reflections
"I'll always be so grateful to my family, friends, coaches, our fans, and everyone involved in the game who has supported me and my career over the years. It's been an amazing ride, and I wouldn't change a thing," he added.
Despite recent challenges with red ball cricket, Southee aims for a personal milestone of reaching 400 wickets by series end. So far, he has claimed 385 wickets in 104 Tests.
