Tim Paine Endorses Dhruv Jurel As Key Batter For Upcoming Perth Test Against Australia
Tim Paine, the former captain of Australia, expressed surprise if Dhruv Jurel doesn't play in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener. The series is set to start on November 22 in Perth. Paine's comments come after Jurel's impressive performance for India A against Australia A.
Jurel, chosen as a backup to Rishabh Pant, made a strong case for inclusion in the starting lineup. During the unofficial Test match, he showcased his skills with scores of 80 and 68 while batting at No.6. This performance has caught the attention of many.

Paine, who coached Australia A during that match, believes Jurel could play as a specialist batter in the first Test of the summer. "I don't know if you saw much of the highlights, but after seeing him bat (against Australia A) - even though he's a wicket-keeper, from what I've seen on this tour and from India's batting in the last couple of months, I'd be staggered if he doesn't play," Paine told Australian radio station SEN on Tuesday (November 12).
The 23-year-old has only three Test matches under his belt for India but appeared confident and skilled. His ability to handle pace and bounce was particularly noteworthy, especially given that these conditions can be challenging for Indian players.
Paine acknowledged that Jurel will face tougher competition if selected for the ICC World Test Championship clash against Australia. However, he believes Jurel is ready for this challenge and will adapt well to Perth's fast conditions.
"He scored one of the more polished 80s I've seen, and we were all sitting around as staff of Cricket Australia and thought, 'Wow, this guy can seriously play'," Paine remarked about Jurel's innings.
Paine also highlighted that despite facing Australia's top bowlers like Cummins, Starc, and Hazlewood, Jurel seems equipped to handle Test cricket's demands. "Keep an eye out for him this summer. I think he's going to impress a lot of Australian fans," Paine added.
Jurel's potential inclusion in the team could bring fresh energy and skill to India's lineup. His recent performances suggest he might be a key player to watch during this series against Australia.
