Tim Paine To Lead Adelaide Strikers As New Head Coach In BBL Season 14
Tim Paine, the former captain of Australia, is set to embark on his first head coaching role with the Adelaide Strikers for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season 14. He replaces Jason Gillespie, who has taken up the red ball head coach position for Pakistan's men's national team.
Paine, who retired from playing in 2022, transitioned into coaching within two years. Last season, he served as an assistant to Gillespie and played a significant role in guiding the Strikers to the final stages of BBL 13.

"I am honoured and excited by the opportunity to coach such a well-established and strongly supported club, and I can't wait for the start of BBL 14 in December," Paine stated in an official release from the Adelaide Strikers.
Paine's extensive playing career includes representing Australia in 35 Tests (23 as captain), 35 ODIs, and 12 T20Is. He also played 62 T20 games for Hobart Hurricanes and Tasmania, scoring 1449 runs at a strike rate of 125.7 and achieving 50 dismissals behind the stumps.
The former wicketkeeper-batsman is currently assisting NT Strike in Darwin for the Top End T20 Series. Additionally, he has worked as Adam Voges' deputy during the 2023 Australia A series against New Zealand and mentored the national under-19s program.
Paine expressed his enthusiasm about joining Adelaide Strikers: "After spending time in Adelaide last year I believe the Strikers team and the whole of South Australian cricket has huge potential and I'm looking forward to being part of taking it forward and winning a few trophies."
Support System at Adelaide Strikers
Unlike Gillespie, who managed both South Australia's men's team and Adelaide Strikers, Paine will focus solely on the BBL team. Ryan Harris will handle coaching duties for South Australia's first-class team.
Paine will be supported by Luke Williams, a two-time WBBL title-winning coach who also achieved success with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in India's Women's Premier League (WPL).

Looking Forward to BBL 14
Paine reflected on his past experiences: "Having been on the losing side when the Strikers defeated Hobart Hurricanes to claim their first title win in BBL 07, I can vouch for the fantastic atmosphere created by the fans at Adelaide Oval."
"And the backing the boys received last season was a large factor in the success we experienced in the second half of BBL 13, so we're working hard to build on that momentum in the coming summer. I believe we have an immensely talented and versatile squad which we will finalise over the next few weeks," he added.
The upcoming season promises excitement as Paine takes charge of a team with significant potential. His experience and leadership are expected to drive Adelaide Strikers towards more successes.
