Texas Super Kings Clinch Victory Against Seattle Orcas In MLC 2024 Showdown

Calvin Savage's exceptional all-round display led the Texas Super Kings to a commanding 37-run victory over the Seattle Orcas in the final league match of Major League Cricket 2024 at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas, on Tuesday (July 23).

Despite a promising start by Quinton de Kock and Shehan Jayasuriya, the Texas Super Kings' bowlers, spearheaded by Ottneil Bartmann (3/20), Noor Ahmad (2/19), and Calvin Savage (2/23), dismantled the Seattle batting lineup.

The Seattle Orcas began their chase poorly, losing Ryan Rickleton for a duck off the first ball to Ottneil Bartmann. Quinton de Kock (26) and Shehan Jayasuriya (24) then steadied the innings, reaching 47/1 by the end of the powerplay.

However, Calvin Savage dismissed Jayasuriya in the seventh over. Shortly after, de Kock was also sent back to the pavilion, leaving the Orcas struggling at 59/3 in the ninth over.

Heinrich Klaasen (4) and Matthew Bracewell (4) were tasked with stabilising the innings but fell cheaply to spinners. Mitchell Santner dismissed Klaasen, while Noor Ahmad trapped Bracewell lbw.

Shubham Ranjane (16) and Keemo Paul (25) tried to keep Seattle in contention but failed. Ranjane was run out, and Paul was bowled by Noor Ahmad before the 17th over, ending their hopes.

Earlier in the day, Texas Super Kings lost Devon Conway (0) and Joshua Tromp (6) early. Faf Du Plessis then took charge with a brisk 37 runs before being dismissed by Keemo Paul. By the end of the powerplay, they were at 56/3.

Milind Kumar contributed a steady 27 runs before falling to Keemo Paul again. Marcus Stoinis (11) and Mitchell Santner (15) got starts but couldn't capitalise, falling to Aryan Desai and Matthew Bracewell respectively.

The highlight of Texas' innings was Calvin Savage's unbeaten 45 runs off 27 balls. He formed a crucial partnership with Cameron Stevenson, adding 43 runs in just 23 balls towards the end. Stevenson supported with a quickfire 17 before being bowled by Nandre Burger in the 18th over.

Savage's late fireworks included two consecutive sixes off Bracewell in the 16th over and a 17-run over off Burger's bowling in the 18th. This helped Texas reach a competitive total of 177/8.
