Tejasvi Jaiswal Scores First-Class Half-Century In Ranji Trophy After Sacrificing His Cricket Dreams

Tejasvi Jaiswal, the elder brother of Indian cricketer Yashasvi Jaiswal, recently achieved a significant milestone. He scored his first First-Class half-century for Tripura against Baroda in the Ranji Trophy on 6 November. This achievement marks a pivotal moment in Tejasvi's cricket journey, which has been characterised by personal sacrifices to support his younger brother's aspirations.

The Jaiswal brothers shared a passion for cricket from an early age. They moved from Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, to Mumbai in 2012 with dreams of playing for India. However, their father's limited income from his hardware shop couldn't support both their ambitions. Tejasvi had to make difficult choices to ensure Yashasvi could pursue his cricketing dreams.

Tejasvi Jaiswal's First-Class Success in Ranji Trophy

At 17, Tejasvi decided to leave cricket and move to Delhi. He took a job as a salesman in a decorative lights store to financially support Yashasvi. This decision was influenced by an accusation of age fraud that benched him for over a year in Mumbai after a notable performance in the Harris Shield.

"Anyway, Mumbai was too expensive for both of us," Tejasvi explained, recalling how they lived in a groundskeeper's tent at Azad Maidan to save money. Despite these challenges, he prioritised Yashasvi's career over his own aspirations.

After years away from the sport, Tejasvi returned to cricket with determination. Now 27, he moved to Tripura to restart his career in domestic cricket. His recent performance against Baroda highlighted his talent and marked a personal triumph after years of dedication and sacrifice.

Reflecting on their journey, Tejasvi noted how life improved after 2021 when their sisters got married and Yashasvi secured an IPL contract. "Life eased for us after that," he said, acknowledging the positive changes in their lives.

In an interview with the Indian Express, Tejasvi shared his story: "I also wanted to play cricket, but the financial situation of our family was not good," he said. "Yashasvi was doing well... So by the end of 2013, I quit Mumbai and cricket and moved to Delhi."
