T20 World Cup 2024: Vaughan Sees Trophy Spree For India With Final Win

Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan has predicted that Team India will embark on a 'trophy-winning spree' if they secure victory on Saturday, June 29, against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final.

India is set to face South Africa in the final at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. The Men in Blue aim to end their 11-year wait for an ICC trophy.

Vaughan Backs India for Trophy Spree

Since winning the 2013 Champions Trophy under Mahendra Singh Dhoni's leadership, India has come close to lifting several ICC titles but has faltered at the final hurdle.

In last year's ODI World Cup, Rohit Sharma's team reached the final unbeaten but lost to Australia at a packed Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Now, nearly eight months after losing an ICC tournament final, India has another opportunity to end their title drought. Rohit's undefeated squad aims to break South Africa's unbeaten streak in the T20 World Cup 2024 final.

Despite missing at least eight chances to win an ICC event since 2013, former England captain Vaughan believes India will win many titles if they triumph today.

Vaughan's Support for India

Vaughan took to social media to support Team India, which boasts quality both within and outside the squad. He believes a win today could lead to multiple trophies in the coming years.

"I feel if India get the job done today they are going to go on a trophy winning spree .. they have so much quality in and out of this squad .. Its been 10 yrs since they won a trophy and this one could lead to quite a few over the next years," Vaughan wrote on X.

Tournament Performance

Both South Africa and India have had contrasting journeys in the tournament despite their unbeaten runs. India dominated every side they faced, including heavyweights like Australia, Pakistan, and England.

The Proteas, however, secured narrow victories against teams like Netherlands, Bangladesh, and Nepal during the group stage. They were also tested by England, West Indies, and USA in the Super 8s.

Semi-Final Success

The semi-finals were relatively easy for both teams. India defeated England by 68 runs while defending a total of 171. South Africa beat Afghanistan by nine wickets while chasing just 57 runs.

The anticipation builds as cricket fans await whether India's long wait for an ICC trophy will finally end or if South Africa will continue their unbeaten run.
