T20 World Cup 2024: Harbhajan Singh Warns Of Cohesion Challenge For Team India
Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has highlighted the lack of cohesion within the Mumbai Indians during IPL 2024 and stressed the need for the Indian team management to address the dynamics between Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya ahead of the T20 World Cup.
Mumbai Indians faced numerous controversies and off-field issues throughout IPL 2024, culminating in a last-place finish. The season was marred by tensions following Hardik Pandya's appointment as MI captain, replacing Rohit Sharma. This decision led to significant friction between the two players.

Rohit Sharma reportedly disapproved of Hardik's captaincy, while Hardik faced criticism from fans. Despite these challenges, Rohit has been named India's captain for the T20 World Cup, with Hardik set to serve as his deputy. Reports suggest that Rohit initially opposed Hardik's inclusion in the national team, but pressure from higher authorities secured his spot.
Amidst these developments, Harbhajan Singh has emphasized the importance of unity within the team for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Speaking to PTI, he underscored the need for Rohit and Hardik to collaborate effectively for the national team and placed responsibility on the management to facilitate this process.
"It looked like they [MI] were not playing together as a team. So there was a lot going on. Hardik wasn't a free man in the last two months. I believe both of them and many others who have played in different teams will have to come together to do something special for the nation," Harbhajan said.
"Winning a World Cup is a bigger achievement than winning an IPL trophy, so I would urge the management to bring everyone together, have them on one page and make sure they play like one. I believe it's the responsibility of the management to come together, and win together. Even if they lose they should be losing together," Harbhajan added.
Looking Ahead
The challenge now lies in how Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya will reconcile their differences for the benefit of the national team. Both players are seasoned professionals, and it is anticipated that they will set aside franchise-related issues to perform cohesively for India.
