Tahlia McGrath Takes Charge As Captain Of Australia Women For Upcoming ODI Series Against India

Tahlia McGrath has been named captain of the Australian women's cricket team for the upcoming ODI series against India. Alyssa Healy, the regular captain, will not participate due to a knee injury. The series kicks off on December 5 in Brisbane, with subsequent matches on December 8 and 11 in Brisbane and Perth.

Georgia Voll, a young batter from Sydney Thunder, has been called up to the national team for the first time. She joins seasoned players like Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, and Annabel Sutherland. Her selection is a result of her outstanding performance in the Women's Big Bash League.

Tahlia McGrath to Captain Australia Women vs India

Shawn Flegler, Cricket Australia's Head of Performance Women's Cricket and National Selector, explained that Healy's absence is strategic. This decision ensures her readiness for the Ashes series. Her involvement in the New Zealand series will be evaluated soon.

The squad for the India series includes Darcie Brown, Ashleigh Gardner, Kim Garth, Alana King, Phoebe Litchfield, Tahlia McGrath, Sophie Molineux, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Voll, and Georgia Wareham. Alyssa Healy is expected to return only for the New Zealand series.

Australia will face T20 world champions New Zealand in another three-match ODI series from December 19-23 in Wellington. These matches are part of the ICC Women's Championship where Australia currently leads. The team aims to maintain its top position through these challenging fixtures.

Flegler praised McGrath's leadership skills during the T20 World Cup. "Tahlia McGrath impressed as captain in tough conditions during the World Cup," he stated. The squad selection considers next year's Ashes series and ICC Women's World Cup.

Australia's focus remains on maintaining their lead in the ICC Women's Championship while preparing for future international competitions. The team is determined to perform well against both India and New Zealand as they build towards next year's major tournaments.
