T20 World Cup 2024: Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan Return To India; Rinku Singh's Stay Extended
India has secured a spot in the Super Eights of the T20 World Cup after winning all three of their group stage matches. The team triumphed over Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA in New York, emerging as Group A winners. Their final group stage match is scheduled against Canada on Saturday.
Reports indicate that Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan will return to India from the USA after the final group stage match. India had four travelling reserves for injury backups: Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, and Rinku Singh.

Shubman Gill is returning because India currently has sufficient opening options. Yashasvi Jaiswal is available on the bench, which the BCCI believes will suffice in case of any unforeseen injuries to the first-team members. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are opening the batting for India.
Avesh Khan is also set to return as the team management feels they have adequate pace options. Including Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya, India has five seamers, four of whom are right-handed bowlers. With the Super 8 and subsequent stages to be played in the West Indies, spinners are expected to play a more significant role.
Rinku Singh will continue with the Indian team as a travelling reserve. Khaleel Ahmed will also remain as a reserve since Arshdeep Singh is the only left-handed pacer in the squad.
India is set to compete against Australia, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh in the Super 8 matches.
