T20 World Cup 2024: Schedule Altered To Favour India, Michael Vaughan Points Out
Michael Vaughan, a former England cricketer, has criticised the scheduling of the T20 World Cup 2024, suggesting it favours India. He pointed out that the South Africa vs Afghanistan match was moved to the first semi-final, while India vs England was shifted to the second semi-final.
According to Vaughan, if the matches were scheduled like previous tournaments, India vs England should have been on Wednesday (June 26), and South Africa vs Afghanistan on Thursday (June 27). However, the ICC altered the schedule to suit Indian viewership.

Afghanistan faced significant challenges leading up to their semi-final against South Africa. After making history in St Vincent, they experienced a four-hour flight delay to Trinidad. This left them with little time to practice or acclimate to the new venue.
During the match at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba on June 26, Afghanistan was bowled out for just 56 runs. South Africa chased down the target in 8.5 overs. Rashid Khan, Afghanistan's skipper, mentioned the flight delay during the toss and opted to bat first.
"When you have a 4-hour delay flight, it is not easy. Does not matter if you sleep 1 hour, you have to be at your best," Rashid said at the toss. Despite this decision, their batting lineup struggled on a challenging wicket.
Vaughan took to social media to express his discontent with ICC's scheduling decisions. He highlighted that Afghanistan had no time to practice or get used to the new venue due to their delayed flight.
"So Afghanistan qualify for the WC semi winning in St Vincent on Monday night .. 4 hr flight delay on Tues to Trinidad so no time to practice or get accustomed to a new venue .. utter lack of respect to players i am afraid," Vaughan posted on X.

India's Advantage
Vaughan further criticised ICC for favouring India by scheduling their match against England in Guyana where rain was forecasted. As Group 1 winners in Super Eight, India would progress without playing if rain interrupted play.
"Surely this Semi should have been the Guyana one .. but because the whole event is geared towards India it's so unfair on others .." Vaughan posted in another tweet.
The former England captain also questioned why there were not enough covers for the field despite heavy rain forecasts during monsoon season. "So huge rain forecasted .. It's the monsoon season so I get it .. so why so few covers for the whole outfield !!!!! surely you get more covers so we cover the whole ground !!!!!!!!" he added.
The controversy surrounding these scheduling decisions has sparked discussions among cricket fans and experts alike about fairness and player welfare in international tournaments.
