South Africa batter David Miller expressed his disappointment following his team's loss to India in the T20 World Cup 2024 final at Kensington Oval, Barbados. He described the defeat on Saturday (June 29) as "gutted" and a "tough pill to swallow."

India clinched victory by seven runs, thanks to stellar performances from Virat Kohli and Axar Patel with the bat. The trio of Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya showcased exceptional death bowling, restricting South Africa's chase.

South Africa needed 30 runs off 30 balls but were stifled by Bumrah, Pandya, and Arshdeep, who conceded only 22 runs in the next five overs. Bumrah altered the equation to 26 off 24 balls, followed by Pandya dismissing Heinrich Klaasen for 52 in the subsequent over.

Miller attempted a big shot during the last over bowled by Pandya when South Africa required 16 runs from six balls. However, Suryakumar Yadav's remarkable juggling catch near the boundary sealed Miller's fate for 21 runs.

South Africa managed only eight runs in the final over while losing two wickets. India's victory marked their second T20 World Cup title. The South African team looked dejected as they received their runners-up medals.

Miller took to Instagram two days later to share his feelings: "I am gutted!! Really tough pill to swallow after what transpired 2 days ago. Words don't explain how I am feeling."

The left-handed batter acknowledged the team's journey under Aiden Markram's leadership. He praised their resilience and determination despite the highs and lows throughout the tournament.

"One thing I do know is how proud I am of this unit. This journey was an incredible one, with highs and lows throughout the entire month. We have endured pain, but I know this team has the resilience and will keep raising the bar," Miller added.

Left-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi also shared his emotions on social media. He expressed that silver is not equivalent to gold and that the defeat still hurts deeply.

"Whether u play badly and lose or play very well and lose, in my books it all counts for nothing because a well played Silver will never be the same as Gold. We gave our all as a team n fought with everything we had and will be back to try again. Still hurts like hell," Shamsi posted on X.
