Ravindra Jadeja Clinches Best Fielder Medal In T20 World Cup Clash Against Afghanistan

Team India secured a 47-run victory over Afghanistan in the first Group 1 Super 8 match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Following the match, India celebrated in the dressing room with the best fielder's medal award ceremony.

Indian fielding coach T. Dilip had introduced an award—a medal—to honour the best fielder of the team in every match at last year's ODI World Cup. This tradition has continued in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Jadeja Awarded Best Fielder Medal

The best fielder medal is awarded to a player who excels in various aspects such as taking catches, executing run-outs, saving runs, or performing glove-work behind the stumps.

In the group stages of the T20 World Cup 2024, Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Siraj (twice) received the honours. Ravi Shastri, Yuvraj Singh, and a young fan named Subhek awarded the medals.

This time, there was a unique celebration from the awardee with the awarder. In a video posted by BCCI, fielding coach Dilip made a brief speech about the match and mentioned top performers at Kensington Oval in Bridgtown, Barbados.

Dilip announced Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja as contenders for the medal. He acknowledged the entire team's fielding efforts, especially given the differing conditions in the Caribbean compared to the USA.

While Axar and Arshdeep claimed tremendous catches, Pant and Jadeja took three catches each. Jadeja's overall effort in the field earned him the award this time, and he celebrated uniquely.

Once Dilip finished naming the top performers, he invited head coach Rahul Dravid to award Jadeja the medal. The all-rounder lifted up Dravid after receiving it.
