India is poised to conclude their initial round campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 as the top team in Group A. Having secured victories in their first three matches, they are set to face Canada in their final match of the opening round on Saturday in Lauderhill, Florida.
On Friday, the match between USA and Ireland at the same venue was abandoned due to rain. As a result, both teams shared a point, allowing USA to finish the group stage with five points and qualify for the Super 8 in their debut T20 World Cup campaign.
The abandoned match also dashed Pakistan's hopes of advancing to the Super 8 round. Even if Pakistan wins their last match against Ireland on Sunday in Florida, they will not qualify.
Canada was also eliminated from the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 due to the abandoned USA vs Ireland match. Canada had kept their hopes alive by defeating Ireland in their second match.
Led by Rohit Sharma, India aims to maintain a perfect record in the group stage by defeating Canada and winning all four of their Group A matches. In the Super 8, India will compete alongside Australia and Afghanistan.
