T20 World Cup 2024: Bangladesh Eyes Super 8 Spot Amidst Challenges
Bangladesh are on the verge of becoming the second and final team from Group D to advance to the second round of the T20 World Cup 2024. Two teams from each of the four groups will move into the next stage, forming two groups of four teams each. South Africa has already secured their spot in the Super 8.
Bangladesh are favoured to join South Africa as the second team from Group D to qualify for the Super 8. However, they must remain vigilant over the next few days. By Monday morning, all eight participants in the Super 8 of T20 World Cup 2024 will be confirmed.

To join India, Australia, and Afghanistan in Super 8 Group 1, Bangladesh need only defeat Nepal on Monday. This victory would ensure their qualification, even if the Netherlands manage to beat Sri Lanka in their final game.
However, there could be a twist if Nepal manage to defeat Bangladesh. Nepal nearly caused a significant upset on Saturday when South Africa narrowly beat them by just one run.
Nepal restricted South Africa to 115/7 in 20 overs and needed just one run to tie and two runs to win off the final ball. Unfortunately, a run-out denied them what would have been their biggest win in cricket history.
Star spinner Sandeep Lamichhane has significantly strengthened Nepal's bowling unit. Bangladesh's batters should be cautious of the threats posed by Lamichhane and his teammates.
Even if Bangladesh lose to Nepal, they still have a chance to qualify due to their superior Net Run Rate (NRR) compared to the Netherlands. Bangladesh boasts a positive NRR of +0.478, while the Netherlands have a negative NRR of -0.408. The Netherlands would need a massive win over Sri Lanka in St Lucia on Monday to surpass Bangladesh.
