KKR's Sunil Narine Shares Insight On His Subdued Wicket Celebrations
Kolkata Knight Riders' Sunil Narine, a name synonymous with T20 cricket excellence, recently shared insights into his understated celebration style after taking a wicket. The cricketer, who has been with KKR for an impressive 13 consecutive years, is not just a stalwart for his team but also a significant figure in the T20 format.
This season, Narine has not only been a force with the ball but has also made waves with the bat. Currently, he stands fifth in the Orange Cap race, having scored 461 runs, including a spectacular maiden T20 century against Rajasthan Royals. However, it's his mystery spin that continues to perplex batters, securing 13 wickets this season at an economy rate of just 6.6 runs per over.

Despite his on-field successes, Narine is known for his calm demeanor, rarely displaying excessive emotion after taking a wicket. In a recent episode of the Knights Dug Out podcast by KKR, Narine attributed this composed approach to advice from his father. "Growing up, a lesson from my dad was that 'if you get someone out today, you still have to play them tomorrow and next time'. I think it's enjoy the moment as much as you can, but don't overdo it," he explained.
Narine's loyalty to KKR is noteworthy; since joining in 2012, he has remained with the franchise throughout his IPL career. This fidelity underscores the strong bond between Narine and the team management, as well as his affection for Kolkata. "Since the first day, I've been loving and enjoying being here. It's been the same team since the start and playing all over the world with different Knights Riders franchises has been great," Narine reflected on his enduring relationship with KKR.
The spinner's journey with KKR highlights not only his cricketing prowess but also the values he brings to the team—both on and off the field. His story is a testament to the impact of personal principles on professional conduct in sports.
