Sunil Gavaskar And 1983 World Cup Team Unite To Assist Vinod Kambli In His Time Of Need

Sunil Gavaskar and the 1983 World Cup-winning team have stepped up to support former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli. Kambli has been facing both mental and physical health challenges. Recently, he attended an event honouring his late coach Ramakant Achrekar, where videos raised concerns about his well-being.

The clips, which circulated widely on social media, showed Kambli struggling to stand and speak clearly. This sparked worry among fans about his current state. Alongside health issues, Kambli is also dealing with financial difficulties.

Gavaskar and Team Aid Vinod Kambli's Recovery

The 1983 World Cup team has expressed their willingness to assist Kambli during these tough times. Sunil Gavaskar stated, "The team is very conscious of our young players, who are like our sons." He emphasised their concern for cricketers when they face hardships.

Gavaskar further explained their intentions: "What the '83 team wants to do is take care of him, and help him to get back on his feet. How we will do it, we will see in the very near future. We want to take care of him, of cricketers on whom fortune is not smiling on them sometimes."

Balwinder Singh Sandhu, another member of the 1983 squad, mentioned that they are ready to provide financial aid if Kambli opts for rehabilitation. "Kapil (Dev) has told me clearly that if he wants to go to rehab, then we are willing to help him financially," Sandhu shared.

Sandhu added that the team would cover the costs regardless of how long the treatment takes. However, Kambli must first commit to entering rehab himself for this support to be extended.

Kambli's cricket career was relatively short but notable. Between 1993 and 2000, he played 17 Tests and 104 ODIs for India. Remarkably, he remains the fastest Indian batter to reach 1000 Test runs.
