Sri Lanka Rest Kusal And Kamindu Mendis Ahead Of Final ODI Against New Zealand
Sri Lanka has decided to rest four key players, including Kusal Mendis and Kamindu Mendis, for the third ODI against New Zealand. This match is set for November 19 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. The decision comes after Sri Lanka secured a 2-0 lead in the series.
With an eye on the upcoming Test series in South Africa, Sri Lanka has also rested Pathum Nissanka and Asitha Fernando. These players have been regulars in recent months, contributing significantly to the team's performance.

Kusal Mendis had an impressive run in the series, scoring 217 runs over two matches. Alongside him, Kamindu, Nissanka, and Asitha have consistently played for Sri Lanka recently. The selectors aim to give these players time to recuperate before the South Africa Tests.
To fill the gaps left by these absences, Nuwanidu Fernando, Lahiru Udara, and Eshan Malinga have been brought into the squad for the final ODI. This strategic move allows fresh talent to gain experience while ensuring key players are well-rested.
The recent victory over New Zealand marked a significant achievement for Sri Lanka. It was their first ODI series win against New Zealand since November 2012. This triumph ended a long wait of 12 years and was clinched with a narrow three-wicket win at Pallekele.
The last time Sri Lanka defeated New Zealand in an ODI series was back in 2012 with a 3-0 win. Since then, they faced New Zealand five times but only managed one draw while losing four encounters. The current success is a morale booster for the team.
The third ODI will take place on November 19 in Pallekele. Following this, Sri Lanka will head to South Africa for a two-match Test series starting on November 27. The first Test will be held in Durban, followed by another match in Gqeberha.
The squad for the third ODI includes Charith Asalanka as captain, with Avishka Fernando and Lahiru Udara among others like Kusal Perera and Eshan Malinga. Other members include Janith Liyanage and Sadeera Samarawickrama.
Nishan Madushka, Dunith Wellalage, Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Jeffrey Vandersay are also part of the team alongside Chamindu Wickramasinghe and Dilshan Madushanka. Mohamed Shiraz completes the lineup for this crucial match.
