Sri Lanka's Dushmantha Chameera Ruled Out Of India Series Owing To Injury
Sri Lanka's fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out of the upcoming white-ball series against India due to an injury, as confirmed by chief selector Upul Tharanga. The announcement was made on Wednesday, with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) expected to name a replacement soon.
Chameera, who debuted internationally for Sri Lanka in 2015, has faced numerous injuries throughout his career. He has played 12 Tests, 52 ODIs, and 55 T20 matches, taking 32, 56, and 55 wickets respectively. Despite his talent and pace, injuries have often sidelined him.

Tharanga stated during a press conference that included interim head coach Sanath Jayasuriya, "Yesterday we got the reports, and it can be confirmed that he will miss the T20Is and ODIs against India. We will name a replacement shortly."
Chameera's injury history includes missing significant tournaments like the Asia Cup in 2022 and the T20 World Cup in Australia due to a calf injury. He also missed the 2023 Asia Cup because of a shoulder injury and was initially left out of the ODI World Cup squad last year but later included as a replacement for Matheesha Pathirana.
The exact timing of his latest injury remains unclear. Chameera didn't participate in the final matches for Kandy Falcons in the recently concluded Lanka Premier League (LPL). Earlier this year, he missed home series against Afghanistan and Bangladesh due to a quadriceps injury.
Upcoming Series Details
The upcoming series against India will be significant as it marks Gautam Gambhir's first assignment as India's head coach. The three T20 matches are scheduled to take place in Pallekele on July 27, 28, and 30. Following these matches, a three-match ODI series will be held in Colombo on August 2, 4, and 7.
Chameera was part of the squad for the recent T20 World Cup held in the Americas but did not play any match. His frequent injuries have been a major setback for both him and the team.
The Sri Lankan cricket team is now awaiting SLC's announcement of Chameera's replacement for the upcoming series against India.
