SRH And RCB Smash Record For Most Sixes In A Single IPL Season

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have set a new benchmark in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 by hitting over 150 sixes in a single season.

This milestone has been achieved for the first time in the 17-year history of IPL. Previously, teams had collectively managed to hit only 140 plus sixes in any given season. SRH initially broke the record for most sixes in a single season when they surpassed 145 sixes earlier this year.

On Sunday, May 19, SRH crossed the 150-mark for maximums by a team during their final league stage match against Punjab Kings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. This made them the second team to reach this milestone after RCB, who had achieved it on Saturday, May 18.

SRH's tally of sixes went past 150 with Abhishek Sharma leading the charge for most sixes by a player in the season. Virat Kohli had briefly held the lead with 37 sixes before Abhishek surpassed him with six big hits during SRH's run chase of 215 against PBKS.

Later in the innings, Nitish Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen helped SRH surpass RCB's tally for most sixes by a team in a single IPL tournament. Notably, SRH accomplished this feat having played one match fewer than RCB.
