South Africa secured a vital victory against the Netherlands in the T20 World Cup 2024 on Saturday, June 8. The Proteas triumphed by four wickets at Nassau County Stadium in New York, propelling them to the top of Group D. Conversely, the Netherlands dropped to third place in their group following the defeat.

The Netherlands, batting first, managed to score only 103 runs. They had a sluggish start and lost early wickets as South African pacers dominated. Sybrand Engelbrecht was the top scorer with 40 runs, while Logan van Beek contributed 23 runs. The South African bowlers maintained a tight grip throughout the innings. Ottneil Baartman was the standout bowler for South Africa, taking four wickets for 11 runs in his four overs. Marco Jansen and Anrich Nortje also chipped in with two wickets each.

During the run chase, South Africa faced a challenging start. Quinton de Kock was run out without facing a ball, captain Aiden Markram was dismissed for a duck, and Reeza Hendricks scored just three runs. Heinrich Klaasen was also dismissed early, leaving South Africa struggling at 12 for 4 after four overs. However, David Miller and Tristan Stubbs formed a crucial partnership, adding 65 runs for the fifth wicket. Despite Stubbs' dismissal, Miller continued his aggressive play and scored an unbeaten 59 off 51 balls, guiding South Africa to a four-wicket victory.
