South Africa Edges Out England In T20 World Cup Super 8 Thriller
South Africa continued their winning streak in the T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating England by seven runs in their second Super 8 match at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia, on Friday, June 21.
The Proteas defended a 164-run target despite a late surge from England. South Africa conceded 52 runs in three overs (15th, 16th, and 17th) as England, struggling at 87/4 in 14 overs, clawed back to need just 25 runs from the last 18 balls.

Harry Brook (53) and Liam Livingstone (33) added 78 runs off just 42 balls, bringing England back into contention. However, Kagiso Rabada (4 runs in the 18th over), Marco Jansen (7 runs in the 19th over), and Anrich Nortje (6 runs in the 20th over) delivered exceptional final overs to secure South Africa's victory.
Earlier in the match, South Africa posted a total of 163/6. The opening pair of Quinton de Kock (65 off 38) and Reeza Hendricks contributed an 86-run partnership off 59 balls after being asked to bat first.
Jos Buttler's impressive glovework resulted in the dismissal of de Kock and a direct hit run-out of Heinrich Klaasen, which disrupted South Africa's momentum. David Miller's crucial innings of 43 off 28 balls helped South Africa reach a competitive total. Jofra Archer was the standout bowler for England, taking three wickets but conceding 40 runs.
Fans, former cricketers, and commentators took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express their views on South Africa's thrilling win. Former South Africa captain Graeme Smith and commentator Harsha Bhogle were among those who praised the Aiden Markram-led team.
You could either say South Africa keep scraping home or that they are finding a way to win tough games. I think we should give them credit.

South Africa's ability to hold their nerve under pressure has been a key factor in their success so far in the tournament. Their performance against England has further solidified their position as strong contenders for the title.
