Sourav Ganguly Eyes Role As India's Cricket Coach, Supports Gautam Gambhir

Former Indian cricket captain and current BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly, has expressed his interest in coaching the Indian cricket team. This development comes as the BCCI prepares to appoint a new coach, with Rahul Dravid's tenure concluding after the T20 World Cup 2024.

Speaking to the media in Kolkata, Ganguly shared his enthusiasm, stating, "I would love to coach the Indian team. If he wants to do it, I think he will be a very good candidate." His interest adds an intriguing dimension to the selection process for the next head coach of Team India.

Ganguly Keen on Coaching Team India

Adding to the discourse, Ganguly endorsed former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir as a potential candidate for the coaching role. Gambhir, during an event at Medeor Hospital in Abu Dhabi, expressed his eagerness to coach the Indian team. He emphasised the honour and responsibility associated with representing the nation.

"There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team. You are representing 140 crore Indians and those across the globe as well," Gambhir remarked.

With the T20 World Cup 2024 on the horizon, Ganguly also shared his confidence in the Indian team, particularly wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. "He (Rishabh Pant) will play well. He is a good player. The World Cup has not yet started, India is playing its warm-up matches. On 5th June, they are playing their first game. They will do well, they are a good side," Ganguly affirmed.

India is set to commence their T20 World Cup campaign on June 5 against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. As anticipation builds for the tournament, discussions around coaching personnel and the team's prospects add further intrigue to the cricketing landscape.

Future of Indian Cricket

Sourav Ganguly's expressed interest in coaching and Gautam Gambhir's aspiration to guide the national team underscore the depth of talent and passion within Indian cricket. This sets the stage for an exciting chapter in the sport's history.
