Sohail Tanvir Makes History With Five-Wicket Haul In NPL 2024, Echoing IPL Glory
Sohail Tanvir, a former Pakistan fast bowler, recently achieved a significant milestone in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2024. He became the first bowler to secure a five-wicket haul in the tournament's history. This accomplishment adds to his impressive T20 career.
Representing Chitwan Rhinos, Tanvir, aged 39, showcased his exceptional skills against Kathmandu Gurkhas on December 2. His outstanding performance of 5 for 21 was instrumental in limiting the Gurkhas to just 111/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

Tanvir's recent success in NPL brings back memories of his remarkable performance during the inaugural IPL season in 2008. Playing under Shane Warne for Rajasthan Royals, he delivered an unforgettable spell of 6 for 14 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
This feat remains one of the most memorable in IPL history and played a crucial role in Rajasthan Royals' victorious campaign that year. His record figures of 6/14 stood unchallenged for over a decade.
Many bowlers attempted to surpass Tanvir's IPL record over the years. In IPL's second season, Anil Kumble came close with figures of 5/5 against Rajasthan Royals. Lasith Malinga also had an impressive outing in 2011, taking five wickets and bowling a maiden over against Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), but fell short by one wicket.
In the 2016 edition, Adam Zampa equalled Tanvir's six-wicket tally but conceded more runs, finishing with figures of 6/19 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. It wasn't until IPL 2019 that Alzarri Joseph broke the record with figures of 6/12 for Mumbai Indians against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Tanvir's T20 achievements are noteworthy, with a total of 389 wickets in this format. He was also the first recipient of the IPL Purple Cap, having taken 22 wickets in just 11 matches to help Rajasthan Royals clinch their first-ever IPL title.
Despite retiring from international cricket in March 2023, Tanvir continues to impress with his unique bowling style and sharp variations. His contributions have made him a formidable force in T20 leagues worldwide.
