Shubman Gill Leaps 36 Places In ICC T20I Rankings, Jaiswal Inches Towards Top Five

Shubman Gill, who led the run charts in the recent T20I series against Zimbabwe, has made a significant leap in the latest T20I rankings for batters. He climbed 36 places to secure the 37th spot. As captain of the young Indian squad, Gill amassed 170 runs over five matches, averaging 42.50 with a strike rate of 125.93.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Gill's opening partner, missed the first two games due to a late arrival in Zimbabwe. However, he scored 141 runs in three matches at an average of 70.50 and a strike rate of 165.88. This performance propelled him four places up to sixth in the rankings.

Gill Soars in T20I Rankings, Jaiswal Nears Top 5

Jaiswal was part of India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad but did not play any matches. The 22-year-old left-hander is now just three points behind Pakistan's Mohammed Rizwan, who is in fifth place. Babar Azam holds the fourth position, while Australia's Travis Head, India's Suryakumar Yadav, and England's Phil Salt occupy the top three spots respectively.

Jos Buttler has dropped one place to seventh, previously held by India's Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is now ranked eighth. Retired Indian legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have also seen declines in their rankings, falling to the 42nd and 51st spots respectively.

In the bowlers' rankings, Adil Rashid remains the top-ranked T20I bowler globally. He is followed by South Africa's Anrich Nortje, Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga, Afghanistan's Rashid Khan, and Australia's Josh Hazlewood. Among Indian bowlers, Axar Patel has dropped four places to rank 13th.

Kuldeep Yadav follows Patel as the second-highest ranked Indian bowler at 15th place. This shift in rankings highlights both emerging talents and seasoned players adjusting their positions based on recent performances.

The latest updates reflect dynamic changes in player standings due to recent performances in international cricket. These shifts underscore how competitive and unpredictable T20 cricket can be.
