Why India Captain Shubman Gill Is Joining The Zimbabwe Tour Separately

The Indian cricket team is gearing up for their upcoming tour of Zimbabwe, with the five-match T20I series commencing on July 6. Most of the squad has already left for Zimbabwe, but some key players are yet to join.

Shubman Gill will captain the team, which features several new faces. Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma, Harshit Rana, and Tushar Deshpande have received their first national call-ups. VVS Laxman has been appointed as the head coach for this series.

Shubman Gill's Late Zimbabwe Joining

Shubman Gill has not yet joined his teammates in Zimbabwe because he is currently in the USA. He was part of India's reserve team for the T20 World Cup and is now set to fly from New York directly to Harare. Other players are also stuck in Barbados and will join the team soon.

Travelling reserves Khaleel Ahmed and Rinku Singh are included in the Zimbabwe squad. Shivam Dube, who played all World Cup matches for India, will also participate in this series.

Although most of the Indian squad has arrived in Zimbabwe, Shubman Gill's absence raised questions. BCCI's released photos did not feature him, confirming that he will join separately.

The squad for the Zimbabwe T20Is includes:

  • Shubman Gill (c)
  • Yashasvi Jaiswal*
  • Ruturaj Gaikwad

  • Rinku Singh
  • Sanju Samson* (wk)

* Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube replaced by Sai Sudharsan, Jitesh Sharma and Harshit Rana for first two T20I matches.

The reigning T20 World Cup champions face their first challenge a week after their victory. However, this squad is almost entirely different from the one that won the World Cup.

The World Cup-winning team led by Rohit Sharma is currently in Bridgetown but will return to India on July 3 evening. Initially expected to land in Mumbai, they will now arrive in New Delhi via a chartered flight.

This tour marks an important opportunity for new players to showcase their talent on an international stage. Fans eagerly await to see how these fresh faces perform under Shubman Gill's leadership.

The upcoming series promises excitement as India fields a mix of experienced players and newcomers. The team's performance will be closely watched by cricket enthusiasts worldwide.
