Shubman Gill Reveals Captaincy Aspirations, Looks Up To Rohit Sharma

Shubman Gill has shared his thoughts on leading India to a 4-1 series victory in Zimbabwe. The 24-year-old made his captaincy debut for India on July 6, though the team lost the first T20I by 13 runs.

Despite the initial setback, Shubman Gill and Team India bounced back strongly, winning the next four matches consecutively to clinch the series. Gill emerged as the leading run-scorer of the series.

Reflecting on the series win, Gill admitted feeling pressure at the start but ended with immense satisfaction. "You can take qualities from Rohit bhai or even Mahi bhai, Virat bhai, Hardik bhai, all of them. All of them have great qualities. I have played the most under Rohit bhai, so he is someone who I look up to and really enjoy playing under," said Shubman Gill, who scored 170 runs in five matches at an average of 42.50.

The Punjab batter expressed his enjoyment of captaincy and how it enhances his involvement in the game. He mentioned that while captaining brings immense pressure, it also offers great satisfaction when overcoming challenges and securing victories.

"It (captaincy) is something that I definitely enjoy. I think it brings out the best in me when I am out there because I look to be involved in the game. It is something that really brings out the side of me which I enjoy being on the field," he stated.

Gill acknowledged that pressure is a part of both batting and captaincy roles but finds it exciting to navigate through various emotions during matches. "There was pressure, I wouldn't say extra pressure but obviously even when you are playing just as a batsman when you don't perform there is a certain kind of pressure that comes along with it. But I think that's the fun part of it. You kind of feel so many different emotions. Pressure is one of them. And when you get out of that, the satisfaction that you feel is immense," he added.

Looking ahead, Shubman Gill will be seen in action again as India travels to Sri Lanka towards the end of this month for three T20Is and three ODIs.
