Shubman Gill To Return Early From T20 World Cup Amidst Disciplinary Concerns

After India secured a spot in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 round, reports indicated that Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan would return to India following the US leg, concluding with the match against Canada on Saturday, June 15.

Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, Rinku Singh, and Khaleel Ahmed travelled with the Indian team as reserve players for the T20 World Cup 2024. The BCCI sent these players to avoid delays in case of injuries, ensuring the team had immediate replacements.

With India's group stage ending on Saturday, opener Shubman Gill and pacer Avesh Khan are expected to return home. India has a backup opener in Yashasvi Jaiswal. Additionally, the Super 8 matches will be held in the West Indies, where spinners are anticipated to play a significant role. India already has four pacers, including Hardik Pandya, in the main squad.

To provide variety in net sessions with left-arm pace, Khaleel Ahmed will remain with the Indian team. Rinku Singh is also expected to stay for the rest of India's T20 World Cup 2024 campaign.

Reports suggest that Shubman Gill's departure may also be linked to disciplinary issues. Allegedly, the management was dissatisfied with Gill's attitude as he focused on personal projects and showed little interest in team activities.

Avesh Khan, Rinku Singh, and Khaleel Ahmed were present at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium to support India in their match against Pakistan on June 9. However, Shubman Gill was absent.

Rumours indicate tension between Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma. The youngster has reportedly unfollowed the Indian team captain on Instagram. However, it remains unverified whether they were following each other previously.
