Shreyas Iyer Set For Comeback In India's ODI Series Against Sri Lanka, Regains BCCI Contract
Shreyas Iyer is set to make his much-awaited comeback to international cricket. The Mumbai-born batsman is expected to be picked for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka.
This series in Sri Lanka will be the first assignment for newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir. India will play three ODIs and three T20Is starting on July 27.

Gautam Gambhir, who mentored IPL 2024 champions Kolkata Knight Riders led by Shreyas Iyer, has requested the BCCI to include Iyer in the ODI squad. This request was made during a selection meeting in Mumbai.
In a virtual meeting with selectors and BCCI secretary Jay Shah on July 16, Gambhir outlined his vision for Team India. He advocated for the return of both Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul to the ODI side.
Senior cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are also expected to be part of the ODI squad. Gambhir has urged them to participate in the series against Sri Lanka.
The selection meeting will also decide India's T20I captain, with Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya being strong contenders for the role.
Iyer's Journey Back
Iyer last played an ODI game on December 17 in Johannesburg against South Africa, where he scored 52 runs. He missed out on a central contract due to a back injury but is now poised to regain it with his return.
The 30-year-old made a successful comeback in IPL 2024, leading KKR to their first title in ten years. His performance has been instrumental in securing his spot back in the national team.
With Iyer's return, he will also receive a BCCI central contract. His inclusion is seen as a significant boost for India's middle-order batting strength.
The upcoming series against Sri Lanka will be crucial for Team India as they prepare for future international assignments under Gambhir's leadership.
