Shreyas Iyer Trains Hard In Mumbai Rain Eyeing India Cricket Team Comeback

Shreyas Iyer, determined to return to international cricket, was seen training intensely despite heavy rain. A video captures the Indian Premier League-winning captain working out on a race track in Mumbai under adverse weather conditions.

Iyer last represented India in February 2024. He was dropped from the national team following a poor performance in the home Test series against England. This led to his exclusion from the central contract list released by BCCI in February 2024.

The 29-year-old cricketer is making significant efforts to return to international cricket. His rigorous training sessions are part of his preparation for a potential comeback. Despite being shuffled in the batting order, Iyer has shown improvement and adaptability.

After undergoing back surgery in 2023, Iyer worked with the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore to regain his form. His hard work paid off when he led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third IPL title in 2024.

With Gautam Gambhir as head coach, there might be an opportunity for Shreyas Iyer's return. His KKR mentor could find a way to reintegrate him into the India squad, especially for ODIs.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet announced the squad for India's upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. However, Iyer could be included in one of the two squads. With Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retiring from T20Is, there are openings in the T20 squad as well.

Iyer played a crucial role in India's journey to the final of the ODI World Cup 2023. Miscommunication is believed to have kept him out of action since then. The upcoming Sri Lanka series could be pivotal for the 29-year-old's career as he aims to secure his place in the Indian team.
