Shreyas Iyer Urges Media To Verify Facts Amidst Rumours Of Injury For Ranji Trophy Absence
Shreyas Iyer, a key player for Mumbai, recently addressed false reports about his absence from the Ranji Trophy match against Tripura. The 29-year-old middle-order batter took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify rumours suggesting a shoulder injury was the reason for his non-participation.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) clarified that Iyer's absence is due to personal reasons, not an injury. His request for time off was approved by the selection committee, acknowledging his need to manage personal commitments after a hectic schedule.

Iyer has been instrumental in Mumbai's success this season. He played a significant role in their Irani Cup victory after 27 years and scored a crucial 142 against Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy, securing Mumbai's first win in Group A.
Despite missing the match against Tripura from October 26-29, Iyer's form remains promising. He scored 57 and 8 in the Irani Cup final and continues to prioritise his fitness following recent injuries.
Iyer's post on X stirred online discussions, prompting him to correct misinformation. The user who shared the incorrect report apologised after Iyer called out an account quoting Cricbuzz about his supposed shoulder issue.
"Guys seriously let's do some homework before publishing news," Iyer wrote, addressing the false claims directly. His response highlighted the importance of accurate reporting in sports media.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Recently, Tilak Varma broke Iyer's record for the highest individual score by an Indian in T20 cricket. On November 23, Varma scored an unbeaten 151 off 67 balls for Hyderabad against Meghalaya during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Iyer's previous record of 147 was set in 2019 for Mumbai against Sikkim. His innings included seven fours and 15 sixes and was achieved in just 55 balls, marking a highlight of his domestic career.
While fans may miss seeing Iyer play against Tripura, his dedication to Mumbai's campaign remains strong. He aims to balance personal commitments with maintaining peak performance on the field.
