Shane Watson Profusely Apologizes To RCB Fans For IPL 2016 Final Loss

Former RCB all-rounder Shane Watson recently surprised everyone with an unexpected apology to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans during an event.

RCB is one of the teams yet to secure an IPL trophy. Despite having a star-studded squad in almost every edition, they have not won any silverware.

Watson Says Sorry to RCB Fans

This year, however, could be different. RCB qualified for the playoffs after being on the brink of elimination. They were at the bottom of the table with six matches remaining but made a remarkable comeback with six consecutive victories to secure their playoff spot.

Despite their lack of trophies, RCB has come close to winning on three occasions, only to be defeated in the finals each time. The IPL 2016 final was perhaps their most significant missed opportunity.

In that season, RCB was in excellent form. Virat Kohli scored over 900 runs, and the team seemed destined to win the tournament. However, they lost the final to Sunrisers Hyderabad and have not reached the championship match since.

Shane Watson, who was part of the RCB squad during that season, took responsibility for the defeat and issued a heartfelt apology to RCB fans at a recent event.

"First of all to the RCB fans, I need to profusely apologize because of the IPL Final 2016 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. I was hoping to perform my very best but unfortunately, I had one of the worst performances from a bowling perspective in that final. I most probably cost RCB winning the Final of that IPL. So, I want to apologize," Watson said at an event at Presidency University in Bengaluru.

Performance Analysis

Watson's performance in that final was indeed below par. The Australian conceded 61 runs in his four overs and then scored only 11 runs off nine balls during the run chase as RCB lost by eight runs.

As RCB fans look forward to this year's playoffs, Watson's apology serves as a reminder of past challenges and the hope for future success.
