Sanju Samson Faces Backlash For Consecutive Ducks In Sri Lanka T20Is
Sanju Samson faced another setback despite being given a second chance in India's playing eleven during the third and final T20I against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, July 30. The wicketkeeper-batter was initially left out of the first game but got an opportunity in the second match due to Shubman Gill's back spasm. Unfortunately, he was dismissed for a golden duck.
Gill returned for the third T20I, but Samson retained his spot after Rishabh Pant was rested. India had already secured an unassailable 2-0 lead by winning the first two T20Is. However, Samson failed to capitalise on this opportunity as well, registering another duck. He lasted just four balls before being dismissed by Sri Lankan debutant Chamindu Wickramasinghe in the third over.

Samson's dismissal came when he tried to work the ball on the leg side, resulting in a leading edge that was caught by the deep point fielder. Walking back to the pavilion with his head down, Samson's failure at his preferred number three spot added to his woes. Fans took to social media to criticise him for yet another poor performance at the international level.

The Rajasthan Royals captain has developed a reputation for failing to make the most of his limited opportunities with India. His struggles continued as he couldn't deliver when it mattered most.
Not only Samson but other key players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, captain Suryakumar Yadav, and Shivam Dube also failed to perform in the third T20I, which began after a one-hour rain delay. Jaiswal was dismissed in the second over after scoring 10 off nine balls. Suryakumar managed only eight off nine deliveries, while Dube departed after scoring 13 off 14 balls, leaving India struggling at 48/5 in 8.4 overs.
Sri Lanka opted to bowl first after winning the toss, and their decision paid off as they managed to restrict India's batting lineup effectively. The Indian team faced a significant batting collapse, unable to build any substantial partnerships or momentum throughout their innings.
The match highlighted India's batting vulnerabilities and raised questions about their middle-order stability. With key players failing to contribute significantly, it became challenging for India to post a competitive total against a disciplined Sri Lankan bowling attack.
This series of events underscores the importance of consistent performances from all players in maintaining team balance and achieving success at the international level.
