Sanju Samson Poised To Eclipse Shane Warne's Record As Rajasthan Royals Captain In IPL 2024
Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured a significant victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2024 Qualifier 2 on Friday, May 24. This win not only propels them to the final against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday but also positions Sanju Samson to surpass Shane Warne's long-standing record in the T20 league.
With this victory at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Sanju Samson becomes the Rajasthan Royals captain with the most wins in IPL history. The recent triumph against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2024 Eliminator on Wednesday marked Samson's 31st win as RR's captain.

Shane Warne, who captained Rajasthan Royals from 2008 to 2011, led the team in 56 matches, achieving 31 wins. The Australian legend had a win percentage of 55.35 as RR captain.
Rahul Dravid led the Jaipur-based side 40 times from 2012 to 2013, securing 18 IPL victories. Overall, Dravid captained RR to 23 wins with a win percentage of 57.50.
Other notable captains include Shane Watson and Steve Smith. Watson won seven out of 23 T20 games for RR, while Smith guided the team to 15 wins in 27 matches.
Ajinkya Rahane led RR in 24 matches from 2018 to 2019, during which the team lost 15 times.
Sanju Samson took charge of Rajasthan Royals for the first time in 2021. Since then, the 29-year-old has led the team in 60 matches—the highest by any player in the franchise's history. Samson has a win percentage of 51.66.
