Sandeep Lamichhane Achieves Milestone As Second Fastest To 100 T20I Wickets
Spinner Sandeep Lamichhane joined an exclusive list on Monday (June 17) as Nepal bowled out Bangladesh for 106 in a Group D match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent.
With figures of 2 for 17, Lamichhane became the second bowler from an Associate Nation team to claim 100 wickets in T20 Internationals, and the 16th overall in the history of the format.

Only Oman's Bilal Khan had reached the century mark from Associate Nations before Lamichhane, who achieved the feat with the dismissals of Jaker Ali and Tanzim Hasan Sakib in Monday's match. Here is a look at the players with 100 or more wickets in T20Is:
- Tim Southee (New Zealand) - 162 wickets in 122 innings
- Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh) - 146 wickets in 123 innings
- Rashid Khan (Afghanistan) - 144 wickets in 88 innings

By reaching the landmark in just 54 innings, the Nepal leg-spinner also became the second quickest in terms of innings to take 100 wickets in T20Is. Lamichhane is only behind Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan for fastest to reach this milestone.

Returning to the match, Bangladesh were bundled out for a mere total of 106, a crucial game that could impact their chances of Super Eight qualification. A win assures Najmul Hossain Shanto's side a spot in the next round, but a defeat will see them relying on Netherlands' result against Sri Lanka.
Apart from Lamichhane, Sompal Kami, Dipendra Singh Airee and skipper Rohit Paudel also claimed two wickets each, while two dismissals came via run outs. For Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan top-scored with just 17 as they posted their seventh lowest total in T20 World Cups.
