Samoa's Darius Visser Sets New T20I Record With 39 Runs In A Single Over

Darius Visser, Samoa's wicketkeeper-batsman, shattered the T20I record for most runs in a single over on Tuesday, August 20. He scored an astonishing 39 runs off Vanuatu's Nalin Nipiko during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Sub Regional East Asia-Pacific Qualifier A match.

Visser's remarkable feat included six sixes and three no-balls, making him only the fourth player to hit six consecutive sixes in a T20I over. This achievement surpassed the previous record of 36 runs held by Yuvraj Singh, Kieron Pollard, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Nicholas Pooran.

Visser Breaks T20I Over Record
  • Darius Visser (Samoa) - 39 runs (666nb6.nbnb66) vs Nalin Nipiko (Vanuatu) in 2024
  • Yuvraj Singh (India) - 36 runs (666666) vs Stuart Broad (England) in 2007
  • Kieron Pollard (West Indies) - 36 runs (666666) vs Akila Dananjaya (Sri Lanka) in 2021
  • Dipendra Singh Airee (Nepal) - 36 runs (666666) vs Kamran Khan (Qatar) in 2024
  • Nicholas Pooran (West Indies) - 36 runs (6nb4wide4.lb4466) vs Azmatullah Omarzai (Afghanistan) in 2024
  • Rohit Sharma & Rinku Singh (India) - 36 runs (4nb661666) vs Karim Janat (Afghanistan) in 2024

Yuvraj Singh first set the record by hitting six sixes off England's Stuart Broad during the 2007 T20 World Cup. Fourteen years later, Kieron Pollard equalled this feat against Sri Lanka's Akila Dhananjaya. Earlier this year, Nepal's Dipendra Singh Airee joined this elite group by hitting six consecutive sixes off Qatar's Kamran Khan.

In his record-breaking over, Visser started with three successive sixes and continued his assault with another maximum off the fourth legal delivery. Despite a dot ball on the fifth delivery, he smashed another six off the third no-ball and finished with yet another maximum.

This incredible knock of 132 from just 62 balls included a total of 14 sixes and five fours. His performance helped Samoa secure a narrow ten-run victory as they posted a total of 174 all out and restricted Vanuatu to 164/9.

The tally of fourteen sixes by Visser was just four short of Sahil Chauhan’s record for most sixes in a men's T20I match. Chauhan had hit eighteen sixes for Estonia against Cyprus.

Earlier this year, India's Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh also combined to score thirty-six runs in an over against Afghanistan's Karim Janat. This list highlights some of the most explosive batting performances seen in T20I cricket.

Visser’s achievement not only broke records but also showcased his exceptional batting skills under pressure. His ability to clear boundaries consistently played a crucial role in Samoa’s victory.

This new milestone adds another chapter to the history of remarkable individual performances in T20I cricket. It will be remembered as one of the most extraordinary displays of power-hitting ever witnessed on the field.
