Sai Sudharsan Makes T20I Debut As India Bats First Against Zimbabwe
India's captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bat first against Zimbabwe in the second T20I at Harare Sports Club on Sunday, July 7. This decision came after India suffered a heavy defeat in the first match of the series.
A day after Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, and Dhruv Jurel made their T20I debuts, B Sai Sudharsan joined them by making his debut in the shortest format. Sudharsan has already played for India's senior team in One Day Internationals.

India XI: Shubman Gill (captain), Abhishek Sharma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharsan, Riyan Parag, Rinku Singh, Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar.
Zimbabwe XI: Wessly Madhevere, Innocent Kaia, Brian Bennett, Sikandar Raza (captain), Dion Myers, Johnathan Campbell, Clive Madande (wicketkeeper), Wellington Masakadza, Luke Jongwe, Blessing Muzarabani, Tendai Chatara.
Sai Sudharsan earned his cap following consistent performances in the last two IPL seasons for Gujarat Titans. He scored 527 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 141.29 in the recent season. His overall T20 record includes 1503 runs with a strike rate of 130.69 from 43 matches.
The Indian skipper explained his decision to bat first: "Going to bat first, same wicket like yesterday. The best opportunity for us to bat. Looks dry; it's a nice sunny day. Need to improve our batting; Sudharsan comes in for Khaleel," said Gill after winning the toss.
Zimbabwe's captain Sikandar Raza mentioned that he would have chosen to bowl first had he won the toss. "Looks like a summer wicket; the pitch will get better. We wanted to bowl first anyway. The changing room is relaxed and happy. Taking one game at a time; we are here for a reason; will try to get our job done," said Raza.
Sudharsan replaced a bowler in India's playing eleven and is expected to bolster the middle order after India's batting collapse to 102 all out in the first T20I on Saturday.
Gill aimed to avoid batting under pressure on Harare's tricky surface by setting a target and then applying pressure on Zimbabwe with spin options.
Sikandar Raza praised his team's performance and highlighted key players: "Blessing has been good; Chatara delivers for us. He has come right more often than not for the team," he added.
The Tamil Nadu player’s inclusion aims to strengthen India's batting lineup as they seek redemption from their previous loss.
This match marks an important opportunity for India to bounce back and level the series against Zimbabwe.
