Inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals (RR) aim to secure their second Indian Premier League (IPL) title after confirming a playoff spot in the ongoing IPL 2024. RR, who accumulated 17 points from 14 matches, finished third on the points table due to an inferior Net Run Rate (NRR) compared to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Despite a strong start, winning eight out of nine matches, RR's performance dipped towards the end of the league stage. They ended up third after a washout in their final league game and a four-match losing streak. Now, they face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in a direct knockout clash.

This marks the sixth IPL playoff appearance for Rajasthan Royals in 15 seasons. Their first qualification came in 2008 when they won the title. The team last finished in the top four in 2022, ending as runners-up.

Third-placed RR, led by Sanju Samson, will face Faf Du Plessis' fourth-placed RCB in the IPL 2024 Eliminator at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday (May 22). The winner will advance to Qualifier 2 to face the loser of Qualifier 1.

The Royals have reached the playoffs six times and made it to the final twice, winning the title in 2008 and finishing as runners-up in 2022. In their five previous playoff appearances, RR has won once and finished runners-up once. They exited twice in the Eliminator stage and once in Qualifier 2.
