Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli Set For Team India Return Post-T20I Retirement

Senior cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have announced their retirement from T20 Internationals. This decision came after Team India clinched the T20 World Cup by defeating South Africa by 7 runs in the final on Saturday, June 29.

Their departure marks the end of over a decade-long careers in T20Is, during which they played pivotal roles. Their contributions helped India secure an ICC trophy after 11 years, a World Cup after 13 years, and a second T20 World Cup title after 17 years.

Rohit and Kohli's next appearance for India could be as early as next month or the following one. The ODIs and Tests are scheduled for August and September.

With their retirement from T20Is, they will not participate in the upcoming 5-match series in Zimbabwe or the 3-match series in Sri Lanka. However, they are expected to return for the 3-match ODI series in Sri Lanka.

The Indian team's preparations for the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan will commence on August 2nd with the first of three ODIs in Sri Lanka. The subsequent matches are set for August 4th and 7th.

Kohli and Rohit have been integral parts of the Indian squad, leading at different times in their careers. They will no longer play T20Is but remain available for selection in ODIs and Tests.

Jay Shah has confirmed that a similar team to the one that won the T20 World Cup will feature in the Champions Trophy 2025. This means Kohli and Rohit are likely to be part of India's plans for this ICC event.

If they do not participate in the Sri Lanka tour, both players will certainly be back for the World Test Championship final. India is set to host Bangladesh for two Tests in September.

With immediate T20I assignments off their schedule, Kohli and Rohit will have ample time to rest before returning to action for India. Their next match could be crucial as they prepare for future tournaments.
