Rohit Sharma To Join Indian Squad In Australia On November 10 Amid Uncertainty For Perth Test
Rohit Sharma is reportedly preparing to join the initial group of the Indian cricket team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Earlier reports indicated he might miss the first Test in Perth. The uncertainty around his participation remains, but he is expected to travel with the team on Sunday, November 10. A second group will follow on Monday, November 11.
Rohit had previously mentioned that he might not be available for the opening Test due to personal reasons. However, a recent update from Sports Tak suggests that while Rohit will travel with the squad, his participation in the Perth Test is still uncertain. This development comes amid expectations of his second child with Ritika Sajdeh.

In case Rohit misses the first Test, Abhimanyu Easwaran has been included in the squad as a backup option. Additionally, KL Rahul could open alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal if needed. Dhruv Jurel might also be considered for a middle-order role following his impressive performance for India A at MCG.
The Indian team plans to conduct simulation practice sessions instead of a three-day match against India A. This decision follows India A's completion of their second four-day game against Australia A on November 10 before heading to Perth.
The upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy holds significant importance for both India and Australia as they aim to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2025. The final will take place at Lord's in London next year. India's recent 0-3 home series loss against New Zealand has increased the stakes, making it crucial to avoid a heavy defeat against Australia.
The five-match series between India and Australia begins with the first Test in Perth on November 22. A poor performance could jeopardise India's chances of reaching their third consecutive WTC final.
Rohit's statement after the Mumbai Test against New Zealand last week highlighted his uncertainty: "I am not sure of my availability for the first Test in Perth, Fingers Crossed." His absence would require strategic adjustments by Team India as they prepare for this critical series.
