Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja's Centuries Halt England's Charge in Third Test

On the opening day of the third Test, England's decision to recall Mark Wood paid dividends as he showcased a commendable performance. However, centuries from India's captain Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, playing in his hometown, diminished England's early momentum. Despite being sidelined in Visakhapatnam, where India equalized the series at 1-1, Wood's inclusion proved strategic as he claimed three wickets for 69 runs and executed a crucial run-out.

India faced early setbacks, stumbling to 33 for three, but a pivotal moment came when Joe Root dropped Rohit at 27. This lapse allowed Rohit to add another 104 runs before falling to Wood. Jadeja, returning from a hamstring injury, remained unbeaten with a score of 110, steering India to a strong position of 326 for five by the day's end.

Sharma, Jadeja Centuries Stun England

The match marked Ben Stokes' 100th Test appearance, though England lost the toss. Initially, England's bowlers exploited the morning conditions to their advantage. However, as the day progressed and conditions favoured batting, Rohit and Jadeja capitalized, with Sarfaraz Khan also contributing a brisk 62 off 66 balls on his debut.

England's pace attack initially struggled with their length but adjusted as the day went on. Wood's performance was particularly noteworthy as he managed to extract extra bounce and movement. Despite these efforts, India's batsmen adapted and built significant partnerships, especially in the final session where they added 151 runs.

The England Cricket team acknowledged Stokes' milestone with a tweet celebrating his journey and contribution to the team. The tweet read: "It's not the destination It's the journey And so far this one, Has been quite the ride Congrats, @benstokes38."

Rohit's innings was marked by resilience as he overcame physical discomfort and close calls to score his first Test 50 in nine innings. His partnership with Jadeja was instrumental in shifting the momentum towards India. Despite a missed review opportunity by England that could have dismissed Rohit before his century, he continued to press on until eventually being caught by Stokes off a top-edge.

Jadeja's innings was characterized by strength across various areas of the wicket. He nearly offered a chance at 93 but survived to reach his century just before stumps. Sarfaraz Khan made an impressive debut, showcasing confidence against England's spinners and driving effectively.

The day concluded with India in a commanding position thanks to significant contributions from Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja. Their partnership not only recovered India from an early slump but also set a solid foundation for the team moving forward in the match.
