Rohit Sharma Credits Jasprit Bumrah For India's Impressive Win Against Afghanistan
Rohit Sharma commended Jasprit Bumrah for his standout performance in India's 47-run victory over Afghanistan in their opening T20 World Cup match in Barbados on Thursday. Bumrah was the linchpin of India's bowling attack, securing figures of 3-7. Suryakumar Yadav also shone with a swift 28-ball 53, propelling India to 181-8 from their 20 overs.
Afghanistan's top order struggled against Bumrah, who dismantled their batting lineup. This win places India at the top of Group One, ahead of Australia’s match against Bangladesh. Rohit Sharma highlighted the collective effort of the team, stating, "Everyone came in and did their job, that’s critical and we dwell on it."

Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya's partnership was pivotal, according to Sharma. "We needed someone to bat deep which they did," he said. He also praised Bumrah's consistent performance, noting, "We know Bumrah’s class and what he can do. It was important for us to use him smartly regardless of conditions."

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan and leading wicket-taker Fazalhaq Farooqi each took three wickets but could not prevent their team from being bowled out for 134 on the final ball. Arshdeep Singh contributed significantly with figures of 3-36.
Rashid Khan reflected on the game, saying, "We knew we’d be chasing 160-170 given it was against a bigger team. We could’ve done it had we executed smarter." He acknowledged his improved bowling performance but emphasized that the match result is paramount.
Khan added, "We’ve enjoyed our cricket everywhere but our mindset is what matters. If the conditions are helpful, we’ll use it depending on if it’s a batting or bowling track."
