Rohit Sharma Invites Fans To Celebrate T20 World Cup Victory In Mumbai

Rohit Sharma, the skipper of the Indian cricket team, has urged fans to "enjoy the special moment" as the T20 World Cup-winning squad is set for an open bus road show and a felicitation ceremony at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on Thursday (July 4).

The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, ended an 11-year wait for an ICC trophy by defeating South Africa by seven runs in the T20 World Cup 2024 final. The match took place at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, on Saturday (June 29).

BCCI secretary Jay Shah invited fans to join the victory parade through a post on X. "Join us for the Victory Parade honouring Team India's World Cup win! Head to Marine Drive and Wankhede Stadium on July 4th from 5:00 pm onwards to celebrate with us! Save the date! #TeamIndia," he posted.

Rohit Sharma also reached out to fans via social media. "We want to enjoy this special moment with all of you. So let's celebrate this win with a victory parade at Marine Drive & Wankhede on July 4th from 5:00pm onwards. It's coming home," Rohit posted on 'X'.

The victorious Indian team was initially scheduled to arrive earlier in the week. However, their departure was delayed due to Hurricane Beryl in the Caribbean. Despite this setback, the team, along with support staff, players' families, some board officials, and travelling Indian media managed to leave Barbados early Wednesday morning (4:50 AM local time) on a charter flight arranged by BCCI.

Upon arrival on Thursday morning (July 4), several activities are planned. These include meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi before flying to Mumbai for the parade and felicitation ceremony.

A Historic Celebration

A felicitation event will be held at Wankhede Stadium for the Indian team members. This celebration mirrors a similar road show held 14 years ago when Mahendra Singh Dhoni's team defeated Pakistan in the final of the inaugural 2007 World T20 in South Africa.
