Rohit Sharma On Hardik Pandya's Key Role In T20 World Cup 2024 Amid Personal Challenges

IND vs IRE T20 World Cup 2024: India captain Hardik Pandya discussed the significance of all-rounders ahead of his team's opening match against Ireland in New York on Wednesday, June 5.

During the pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Rohit Sharma highlighted that Hardik Pandya, along with Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Shivam Dube, would be crucial to India's success in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the West Indies.

Hardik Pandya's Impact on T20 World Cup

Hardik Pandya, who had a challenging IPL 2024 season as Mumbai Indians captain, has been in the news due to divorce rumours with wife Natasa Stankovic. The couple has yet to address these reports publicly.

The all-rounder made a strong comeback in India's only match so far, scoring an unbeaten 40 runs off 23 balls. His innings included two fours and four sixes. Additionally, he bowled three overs and took a wicket as India secured a 60-run victory.

Rohit Sharma emphasized that all-rounders are vital across all formats, enhancing both batting and bowling depth. He stated that India aims to increase their batting depth and bowling options.

"If you want to create a good balance in a team, you need a lot of all-rounders. In fast-bowling all-rounders we have Hardik and Dube while Jadeja and Axar give us options in the spin department," Rohit told reporters.

"How to use these four across the tournament. We have thought about it and we will decide how to use them depending on the conditions. How to use these four players, that is our focus," he added.

Rohit Sharma noted that all-rounders play a significant role in T20 cricket and other formats. Their contribution is often more substantial than other players.

"It is important that we can use these four players well. As I said, I don't know if we can play all four together. If we can, that will be good. If we cannot, even then we have to find our way," he mentioned.

He also discussed the challenges of determining whether spinners or seamers would be more effective based on conditions. "The spinners will take wickets or the seamers will take. So, we possibly... We have to find the best combination and see what will suit our team," he said.
