Rishabh Pant Makes Comeback To India's T20 World Cup Squad Following Recovery
Rishabh Pant is set to make a triumphant return to international cricket, aiming to steer India towards victory at the T20 World Cup following his recovery from a serious car accident in December 2022. The wicketkeeper-batter's remarkable comeback is highlighted by his selection in the Indian squad, just 16 months post the incident that nearly cost him his life. Pant's inclusion comes after an impressive stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season, where he amassed 398 runs in 11 innings for the Delhi Capitals, boasting a strike rate of 158.6.
Joining Pant as a wicketkeeper in the 15-man squad is Sanju Samson, who has also made significant contributions in the IPL with 385 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 161.1 for the Rajasthan Royals. The leadership duo of captain Rohit Sharma and vice-captain Hardik Pandya will guide the team in the tournament, which kicks off on June 1 across venues in the United States and West Indies. Notably, this selection leaves out KL Rahul and Jitesh Sharma from the squad.

India's bowling attack sees Yuzvendra Chahal making the cut despite not playing in the recent T20I series against South Africa and Afghanistan. His performance in the IPL, capturing 13 wickets at an average of 23.5 for the Royals, has earned him a spot alongside spinners Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel. The pace department will be led by Jasprit Bumrah, with Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh rounding out the options. All-rounders Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube are also included, with Dube providing a strong batting option as evidenced by his performance against Afghanistan earlier this year.
At the batting forefront, Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to open with Rohit Sharma, while batting stalwarts Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav offer formidable support lower down the order. India's campaign begins on June 5 against Ireland in New York, followed by matches against Pakistan, USA, and Canada.
The provisional squad for India reflects a blend of experience and emerging talent, poised to make a significant impact at the T20 World Cup. With players like Pant and Samson showcasing their prowess in recent domestic competitions, India's team composition is a testament to their depth and versatility across all departments of the game.
