Rishabh Pant Criticised For Lacklustre Performance In DPL Opener

Rishabh Pant faced harsh criticism after scoring only 35 runs off 32 balls in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2024 opener between Purani Dilli 6 and South Delhi Rockerz at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, August 17.

Purani Dilli openers Arpit Rana and Manjeet provided a solid start. Rana scored 59 runs off 41 balls with a strike rate of 143.90, hitting eight fours and two sixes. Manjeet contributed 13 runs off eight balls, including a four and a six, maintaining an average of 162.50.

Pant's performance was notably slower, scoring 35 runs from 32 balls at a strike rate of 109.38. Despite hitting four boundaries and a six, his innings lacked the dynamism expected from an international player.

Lalit Yadav and Vansh Bedi, who batted after Pant, played more impactful innings. Lalit remained unbeaten with 34 runs off 21 balls at a strike rate of 161.90. Bedi also impressed with an unbeaten 47 runs off just 19 deliveries, achieving a remarkable strike rate of 247.37.

Despite these efforts, Purani Dilli's total of 197/3 in their allotted 20 overs proved insufficient. South Delhi Rockerz chased down the target with three wickets in hand and five balls to spare. Opener Priyansh Arya scored an impressive 57 off 30 balls, while captain Ayush Badoni added another quickfire 57 off just 29 balls.
